Born in the U.S. and raised in Brazil, Nigeria, Cameroon, and Benin, I felt like a shapeshifter across cultures. I was also aware of my “grayness” in a world that labeled my mother as black and my father as white. Exploring the complexities of who we are deeply informs my art.

My figurative paintings and drawings transcend surface representation. I don’t paint typical skin tones—I mix unexpected colors to reflect the layers of memory and wisdom that shape us. I begin each piece not with form, but with energy—painting the background first in an expressive, alchemical way. This captures the unseen: the essence, the spirit before the body.

After losing my father as a teenager and suppressing grief for years, art and meditation became my way back to presence. My work explores the tension between our limiting beliefs and who we truly are. It’s an invitation to look deeper—to see that while we are shaped by culture, history, race, and experience, we are also vast, resilient, and luminous far beyond what meets the eye. And when we slow down to appreciate and honor our more authentic selves, we expand what’s possible for connection and collective healing.
